This ongoing series of self portraits is inspired by a dream of the recurring end and rebirth of the world. Incorporating alchemical symbology, and Lynchian style visuals these works look at the true nature of man in the face of disaster and devastation.
Each painting focuses on a different part of ‘The Day of the Red Sun’ (as it came to be celebrated in the dream). Beginning with the ‘Blue Mourning’, a play on words referring to the morning of the disaster and the feelings of loss to come, and ending with the ‘Golden Dawn’, a time of peace and hope after the world has been renewed. More than anything, this series reflects on the resilience of humanity – fear, and despair balanced with hope, awe, and even curiosity – and the significance of this as we journey through life.
